The CAC met for the last time on Dec 4 at Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association (CCBA) to review our final improvements for the selected block faces as well as an overall parking management plan for the study area. We also met with the TAC at our office on Dec 11.. Throughout the entire study process, the CAC and TAC have provided invaluable help to the project.

The Study Team presented the study’s recommended improvements to each committee. The plan’s improvements are built around a set of recommendations that improve the pedestrian environment and the operation of the curb for all street users – trucks, cars, buses, and cyclists. The plan’s final recommendations were developed with extensive input from all community stakeholders—residents, businesses, community organizations, elected officials, and the CAC and TAC.

We want to hear from you! We have been out in the field all week hearing from businesses and the community about the draft improvement plan. We got a great response yesterday on Mott Street. We will be on East Broadway between Catherine and Market Streets tomorrow and on Orchard Street between Delancey and Broome Streets on Friday. Look for the people in the orange vests! During the winter and spring we were hard at work putting together the draft improvement plan and next week we will be in the neighborhood to show it to you. We want to hear from you about how the draft plan meets your needs. Each day next week, between 10 am and 7 pm, members of the project team will be at the following locations in the neighborhood and available to speak with anyone.

Over the past few weeks, the project team has been busy collecting information about how people travel to and within Chinatown. You may have randomly seen us on the street. As part of this continuing effort, we would like to know how long it takes drivers to find a parking spot. This information will assist the Department of Transportation to understand parking availability and develop recommendations to improve parking conditions. As we mentioned in the last post, we have held a series of workshops with civic groups during the last few months. These workshops have been successful, bringing together stakeholders and providing the project team with great ideas and suggestions. Photos of these workshops with the Little Italy Merchants Association, the Hamilton Madison Senior Center, and the Indochina Sino-American Community Center can be found here.
