Data Collection Efforts—Parker Survey

Over the past few weeks, the project team has been busy collecting information about how people travel to and within Chinatown. You may have randomly seen us on the street. As part of this continuing effort, we would like to know how long it takes drivers to find a parking spot.  This information will assist the Department of Transportation to understand parking availability and develop recommendations to improve parking conditions.  To participate, please click here for a short survey.  Your participation is important for the success of our overall study.

Chinatown Curbside Management Study – Public Workshop #2

As we mentioned in the last post, we have held a series of workshops with civic groups during the last few months.  These workshops have been successful, bringing together stakeholders and providing the project team with great ideas and suggestions.  Photos of these workshops with the Little Italy Merchants Association, the Hamilton Madison Senior Center, and the Indochina Sino-American Community Center can be found here.  Keep an eye out for upcoming meetings!!

Update on Chinatown Curbside Management Study

Since the last workshop, we had a busy summer advancing the project and preparing for the next steps. During that time, the project team met with numerous representatives of the community and held walkthroughs with various CAC members to identify and confirm the issues that we have heard to date.  Through this process as well as our own field work, we narrowed down our original 60 block faces (actually we had 77 total) down to 20 block faces for additional investigation and the development of possible improvements.

During the fall, we also held our second Community advisory Committee meeting at the CCBA. During this meeting, members of the community and elected officials on the CAC were formally introduced to the 20 selected block faces and were invited to play an innovative board game to identify problems and develop potential solution from our toolbox.  The CAC members proposed some excellent solutions to the issues identified. You can check out the minutes for the CAC Meeting here.

Beginning in November and continuing throughout the winter, we will be meeting with the community at large to play this game and solicit input and ideas and solutions for the project area and specific blocks. Please check out this website for dates and times for these workshops. In addition, we will be providing a web-based tool to solicit input in the coming weeks.
